On route to Cardiff...

Hello… … from the blustery, wind-swept shores of the creek  !  It's certainly kept Ron in his studio as he prepares for Livres d'artistes: The Artist's Book in Theory and Practice.  As you can see, the work has been packed and is now being transported to Cardiff.  Once there, participants will be able to handle a wide selection of Circle Press books, as well as hear Ron speak.  Also included is a selection from the Circle Press Library that features work by Patrick Caulfield, Harold Pinter/Harold Cohen, Karen Bleitz, Ken Campbell and Sam Winston, amongst others.  It is a great chance to get up close to these works.   The conference, inspired by Ron's donation of the Circle Press collection, is a celebration not only of its work but an in-depth look at the...

Studio Note - Far Flung Places

Hello, This week Ron has been approached by the Government Art Collection where, it turns out, and we have discovered, that three works from the current Mask and Totems series are located in some far flung corners of the globe.  Baby Doll is in the United Arab Emirates British Embassy in Abu Dhabi and Pardoner and Chaucer in Jakarta, Indonesia. Ron's now iconic interpretation of Chaucer's Prologue to the Canterbury Tales is becoming increasingly rare, with no first-edition books available.  In the current Series of Chaucer Masks you can see some first-edition prints but they are very small in number, with only one of each of Host, Nun and Squire, available of this collectable work.    HostChaucer's Prologue to the Canterbury Tales (1967)  Whilst we're on the topic of far flung corners, so many of you, from several parts of the globe - Canada, France,...

Studio Notes - It's Thursday

Hello, It's Thursday and we thought you'd like to see Ron's Thursday Man II, made on this week-day back in 1962! A one-off print on beautiful Japanese Wood Veneer Paper, it was made by Ron in the very early days of his experiments with print-making.  It is part of a small group of individual and limited editions of Early Masks, that were inspired by his visits to study African Masks at the British Museum, when he was a Chelsea School of Art student. Look closely though and you will be able to see how these week-day prints influenced his first, and now iconic, version of Chaucer's Prologue, which he created a few years later in 1967.   We hope you enjoy seeing these masks as much as we have in re-discovering them here at Ron's studio. Please let us know what you think...

A Series of Masks and Totems

A SERIES OF MASKS & TOTEMS Thank you for all the great feedback to the launch of Ron's site. This last month we have created our first Series: Masks and Totems.  This features some very rare first edition prints from Ron's iconic versions of Chaucer's Prologue to the Canterbury Tales and the powerful series of Macbeth images. The hardly seen Early Masks and Totems that informed his work on these two classic texts were exciting finds in the Plan Chest drawers and we have included them too. As we have put this together Ron's behind-the-scenes stories have been so interesting and often funny that we have decided to share these with you.  Be sure to click on the links provided so that you don't miss out on some lively reading !  We hope...
