Hello or we should say Oi ! Ron and the bandits are off to Norfolk to visit the Flipside Festival to take part in the celebrations for all things Brazilian. For one month (16 May until 12 June) all the life-size bandits, horses and associated drawings and artefacts, inspired by his enduring fascination with the notorious Robin Hood of Brazil, Lampiao and his gang , will be on display at The Skippings Gallery, Great Yarmouth. For one week, Ron will also be telling his stories to the local schoolchildren about the exploits of the bandits, his childhood in Rio de Janeiro and other tales. Getting into the 'o espirito do Brazil' back at Ron King Studio, we have also had some fun putting together a short history and selection of his Brazilian inspired work. Here you can see the book cover that ignited his obsession, photographs from the 1930s, two paintings inspired by Brazilian bar signs that Ron did and keeps in his personal collection, some Exvotos plus we reveal a set of bandit inspired collages that he hopes to make into prints some day. If you are a follower of Ron, you will know that his early childhood, growing up in Brazil, and the experiences he had there, were of huge importance to how he has created and made work in his long artistic career ... as he says, "My childhood with my Brazilian friends, making kites and balloons, masks and folded paper toys and of course the 'Carnaval' has had an unending influence on the way I work, darting to and fro, from one project to another !".
Don't miss the chance to capture the energy and excitement and, if you're feeling brave, visit the bandits, they are waiting to see you...
Vamos ! Ron King Studio
